  • Value for Money8.0/10

Editorial summary states for a 30-bill-per-month firm on Pro, all-in cost is ~$700/year, 'meaningfully under Bill.com Team for the same volume in CAD.' Pricing tiers start at $32/month for 10 transactions, positioned as the most realistic option for Canadian SMBs vs. US-priced alternatives.

  • Capability8.0/10

Editorial describes full AP/AR automation: bill capture via OCR, multi-step approvals, EFT/wire payments, reconciliation with QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage. • Time to Value5.0/10

About Plooto

Plooto, in 30 seconds

Plooto is a Canadian-built AP automation platform that handles bill capture, multi-step approvals, EFT/wire payments and accounting-system reconciliation. We picked it because for Canadian businesses Bill.com is technically usable but priced for the US, and the EFT rails are slow and expensive when routing CAD. Plooto runs domestic CAD EFT in 1-2 business days, USD wires from a single dashboard, and syncs back to QuickBooks Online and Xero in a way that keeps your bookkeeper happy. For a 10-50 person Canadian SMB processing 30+ vendor bills a month, it is the most realistic option.

How it works

You connect your accounting system (QuickBooks Online, Xero, Sage Business Cloud Accounting or Sage 50). Plooto pulls in your chart of accounts and vendor list. You upload or email-forward bills; Plooto OCRs them, you assign GL codes (or accept the AI suggestion), and you route through a multi-tier approval policy. Once approved, Plooto initiates payment by domestic EFT (CAD or USD), wire, or pre-authorised debit (PAD) for AR collection. Funds clear in 1-2 business days domestically and 2-5 days cross-border. Reconciliation back to the accounting system is automatic and the audit log captures everything.

The platform also handles AR: send PAD-enabled invoices and pull payment from customer bank accounts on due date, no chasing. Vendor onboarding is self-serve — Plooto sends the supplier a request, they enter their banking details directly, and you never touch the data. That security boundary is the part finance teams care about.

Pricing reality

Annual billing: Go at $32/month covers 10 domestic transactions and unlimited approvers. Pro at $49/month covers 50 transactions and adds custom approval workflows, multi-currency and accounting integrations. Premium at $79/month covers 200 transactions and adds Plooto AI bill capture, Bill Pay accelerator, and priority support. Enterprise is custom for 200+ transactions. Each tier has overage fees ($0.50-$1.50 per transaction over cap, depending on plan), USD wires are $9.99 each, international wires are $25 plus FX margin. Currency conversion is at interbank + roughly 1 per cent. For a 30-bill-per-month firm on Pro, all-in cost lands around $700/year — meaningfully under Bill.com Team for the same volume in CAD.

Plooto vs alternatives

Plooto$32-79/monthCanadian SMBs and US-Canada cross-border AP
Bill.com$45-79/user/monthUS-first finance teams on QBO/Xero/NetSuite

Decision matrix

  • Buy if: you are Canadian, you have 10+ vendor bills a month, you use QuickBooks Online or Xero, and you currently send EFTs by logging into your bank. Plooto saves several hours a week.
  • Wait if: you are processing fewer than 10 bills a month — Go is fine but probably overkill until you grow.
  • Skip if: you are US-only — Bill.com has deeper integrations and similar pricing for the US market. Plootos advantage is Canadian rails.

What's included

01

Reduce invoice processing time by 60%

Finance managers at 50–500-person companies spend 3–5 hours per week sorting, coding, and routing invoices. Plooto automates receipt-to-approval, cutting that to under 2 hours. The manager enforces approval rules without manual intervention, and month-end close happens 2–3 days earlier.

02

Enforce compliance and prevent duplicate payments

Controllers need audit trails and policy enforcement across growing invoice volumes. Plooto logs every approval, flags suspicious duplicates, and ensures no payment leaves without signed-off authorization. The system integrates with QuickBooks or Xero, so reconciliation becomes automatic.

03

Manage vendor payments and budget tracking

Agencies juggle invoices from freelancers, contractors, and vendors across multiple projects. Plooto routes invoices by department or project code, tracks spending against budget, and automates recurring vendor payments. The ops lead gets real-time visibility into cash burn.

Frequently asked

How fast are payments?
Domestic CAD EFT clears in 1-2 business days. USD wires clear in 1-3 days. International wires typically 2-5 days plus correspondent bank time.
Does Plooto sync with QuickBooks Online?
Yes, with two-way sync. Bills, payments and reconciliation entries flow back to QBO automatically with attached PDFs.
Is Plooto only for Canada?
It is Canada-first and the strongest case is Canadian SMBs. US businesses can use it for outbound USD wires and ACH, but Bill.com is the deeper US choice.
How much do international wires cost?
$25 plus FX margin (interbank + about 1%). For high cross-border volume, pair Plooto with Wise Business for the cheaper rails.
What happens if I exceed my transaction cap?
You pay an overage fee per transaction ($0.50 to $1.50 depending on plan) until your next billing cycle, when you can also upgrade tiers.
Is there a contract?
Annual billing earns the published rate. Monthly billing is available at roughly 25% higher per month with no annual commit.
